Musicians Bridge connects musicians and organizations working to let children in Bolivia learn to play instruments and develop through music.
MB started in 2008 when 11 Norwegian musicians - through
Strømme Foundation - was invited to play at the 7th Baroque Music Festival in Santa Ana, far into the Chiquitos district in the Bolivian jungle.
At the end of the 17th century, European Jesuit missionaries brought the baroque music to the jungle of the Amazon. They brought sheets of music and instruments and taught the Indians how to play, compose and make new instruments. The historical circumstances changed, and the know-how was forgotten - at least almost. Now the tradition has been rediscovered. Today it is lifted up as a national treasure and forms the foundation of a national music school movement: SICOR (Sistema de Coros y Orquestas). Today SICOR consists of 18 choirs and orchestras. Leader is the violinist Rubén Darío Suárez Arana. The project is inspired by the Venezuela model.
Our experiences with SICOR and the children in Bolivia have influenced our lifes and we want to help Strømme Foundation og SICOR in their work. This made us start Musicians Bridge, a non-commercial organization collecting and sending instruments to the orchestras SICOR runs in Santa Cruz and in the Chiquitania district.
Still at an early stage, Musicians Bridge has already given the first instruments to Strømme Foundation and SICOR, and summer 2009 and 2010 children from Bolivia participated at the Valdres Sommersymfoni in Fagernes, Norway.
Our hope is to achive an exchange of knowledge and culture between Bolivia and the Nordic countries, and we believe our colleague musicians will share the same fantastic experiences we had, both in direct work with the children in Bolivia and by giving instruments to SICOR's orchestras.

Musicians Bridge er et bindeledd mellom musikere og organisasjoner som arbeider for at barn i Bolivia skal få lære seg å spille instrumenter og utvikle seg gjennom musikken.
MB startet i 2008 da 11 norske musikere - gjennom Strømmestiftelsen - ble invitert til å spille på den 7. Barokkmusikkfestivalen i Santa Ana, dypt inne i Chiquitos-distriktet i Bolivias jungel.
Da de europeiske jesuittmisjonærene kom til Bolivia på slutten av 1600-tallet, hadde de med seg noter og instrumenter i bagasjen. De brukte barokkmusikken for å komme i kontakt med indianerne og lærte dem både å spille, komponere og lage nye instrumenter.
De historiske omstendighetene skiftet, og kunnskapen ble glemt, i alle fall nesten. Nå har tradisjonen blitt gjenoppdaget. I dag løftes den fram som en nasjonalskatt og danner mye av det musikalske grunnlaget for den nasjonale musikkskolebevegelsen SICOR (Sistema de Coros y Orquestas). SICOR består nå av 18 kor og orkestre og ledes av fiolinisten Rubén Darío Suárez Arana. Prosjektet er inspirert av Venezuela-modellen.
Opplevelsene vi hadde i møtene med barna i Bolivia og SICOR har i stor grad påvirket våre liv og vi ønsker derfor å hjelpe Strømmestiftelsen og SICOR i deres arbeid. Resultatet er Musicians Bridge - en ikke-kommersiell organisasjon som skal formidle instrumenter, pedagoger og gjestemusikere til de orkestrene SICOR organiserer i Santa Cruz og Chiquitania-distriktet.
Musicians Bridge er på et tidlig stadium, men har allerede overlevert de første instrumentene til Strømmestiftelsen som vil videreformidle disse til SICOR, og sommeren 2009 og 2010 var barn fra Bolivia deltagere på Valdres Sommersymfoni i Fagernes.
Vi håper å oppnå utveksling av kunnskap og kultur mellom Bolivia og Norden, og tror musikere her hjemme vil dele de fantastiske opplevelsene med oss, både i direkte arbeid med barna i Bolivia og ved å gi instrumenter til SICOR.

El dia jueves 4 de Octubre hemos recibido la visita del Secretario General de Stromme, el señor Oyvind, junto a su esposa y a Susana Tapia, representante para América latina de Fundación Stromme. Nuestra felicidad fué muy grande pues de manera Causal, tambien llegaron los instrumentos que fueron donados por las gestiones de nuestros amigos Músicos de Noruega.
Reciban ustedes nuestra gratitud y el firme compromiso de seguir en este camino de la siembra musical.
En este momento me encuentro de viaje por chiquitos, y a mi regreso les infrmaremos soibre el estado delos instrumentos y les mantendremos informados respecto a nuestros avances musicales.

On Thursday 4 October we received the visit of the Secretary General of Stromme, Mr. Oyvind, with his wife and Susana Tapia, representative for Latin America Stromme Foundation. Our happiness was so great as Causal, also reached the instruments that were donated by the efforts of our friends Musicians from Norway.
You receive our gratitude and a firm commitment to continue on this path of musical planting.
At this moment I am traveling in little ones, and my back will inform you about the status of instruments and will keep you informed on our musical progress.
